Cross River Female Senator Bags Women Emancipation, Service Delivery Award

Cross River State female senator representing northern senatorial district of the state, Dr Rose Oko was on Thursday honoured with the prestigious Women Emancipation and Service Delivery award.

The award was presented to Senator Rose by a leading women advocacy group, Women Advancement for Economic and Leadership Empowerment in Africa in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Speaking while presenting the award, president of the women group, Barr Mrs Bridget Ganyi, noted that the award is in recognition of Senator Rose’s continuous struggle for women emancipation and the leading role she is playing in effective service delivery.

In her response, Senator Rose, who is also the chairman, Senator Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, expressed gratitude for the honour.

The female senator further pledge to continue to bring women issues to the front burner and press for their due place in the polity, calling on women across the country and continent of Africa to indicate interest in politics and governance of the nation.

It would be recalled that as a former member of the House of Representatives and a serving Senator, Dr Oko has embarked on several women advocacy and empowerment programmes which has endeared her to the women.

Speaking on the award, a keen supporter of the female senator and former governorship aspirant, Mrs Alice Achi, said it was a “well deserved honour”.
