…Pays unscheduled visit to GGSS Big Qua Town Calabar, reads riot act to defaulters
Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Dr Stephen Odey had on Thursday paid an unscheduled visit to Government Girls’ Secondary School Big Qua Town, Calabar, the State capital city, where he frowned at the laxity and lateness of teachers and students.
Sen Odey, who arrived the school premises at about 8.02 am, met the Principal of the school, Mrs Arit Ota Onaga, and 15 teachers out of 49 teachers. It was also discovered that out of the four Vice Principals, only one was in school that early..
The Commissioner while expressing his utmost disappointment at the conduct of the teachers and management staffers of the school, stressed that they are bad examples to the students. He instructed that the defaulting teachers should be queried and transferred out of the schools while the 3 VPs will be redeployed back to classroom.
He charged the teachers and others to take their jobs seriously or be replaced with more serious Cross Riverians.
According to him, A school that is in the heart of the city, is supposed to be a model school,” the Commissioner emphasised.”
The commissioner while lamenting the situation, he posited that there is a high level of incompetence displayed by the Principal, and all allegations of illegal extortions against the school is being investigated, all those that will be found wanting will be sanctioned appropriately and admonished the students who came late to turn a new leaf as future leaders, by doing what is right at all times.
