The Civil Society Alliance for Transparency and Development (CSATD) has issued a “Letter of Credence” to the Honourable Federal Commissioner (HFC) of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
The Letter of Credence is a summary of the CSATD’s Independent assessment of MDAs on criteria such as Focus on Mandate, Efficiency in Operations, Transparency, Collaborations and Impact on the Citizenry.
In a statement by the National Coordinator of the organization, Mohammed Basah, “the CSATD, following it’s independent assessment, which included discreet interviews with stakeholders, budgetary review and project implementation among others, found the NCFRMI worthy of this recognition”.
He went further to state that “this recognition is a tap on the shoulder for the commission, while also reminding them that their activities are being watched hence, if we have cause to do so, we will not hesitate to call them out for any irregularities on their part”.
Mr. Basah also argues that “the Commission no doubt is reaping the fruits of purposeful leadership, being provided by a relatively young but experienced HFC, who had served in the private sector for years and held senior management positions in international brands”.
Basah said further that the commissioner had brought this wealth of experience to bear in the change of approach in managing persons of concern by the commission to “a development approach where the commission seeks to rehabilitate, reintegrate and resettle person’s of concern within the quickest possible time by empowering them rather than charity interventions”.
The CSATD also called for cooperation and support of all stakeholders to help the NCFRMI achieve more as government alone cannot bear the burden of rehabilitating, reintegrating and resettling IDPs.
The organization called for the private sector and even individuals to reach out to the commission and partner with them by making donations to aid the development approach of the NCFRMI.
