Chris Isiguzo Advocates For Gender-Inclusive Leadership In NUJ

In a resounding call for inclusivity and collective action, the former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, has urged stakeholders to rally behind Ms. Grace Ike and her leadership team as she assumes office as the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council.

Speaking after the thanksgiving service in Abuja, Isiguzo emphasized the importance of unity and strategic planning in ensuring the success of her administration.

“Elections are not a do-or-die affair; they are opportunities to choose capable leadership. Grace Ike’s success is a shared victory and it requires our unwavering support,” he stated.

This marks a significant moment for gender inclusivity within the NUJ, as Ms. Grace Ike takes on a role traditionally dominated by men. Her emergence as Chairman symbolizes a breaking of barriers and underscores the importance of women’s leadership in shaping the future of journalism in Nigeria.

Princess. Joy Idam, a former chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in the FCT, reinforced the need for collective engagement with the new executive team. “We must support Grace Ike’s leadership by providing constructive advice and not abandoning the team midstream,” she said.

Mrs. Evelyn Onyilo, another trailblazing former Nigeria President of NAWOJ, highlighted the significance of emotional intelligence and inclusivity in leadership. She encouraged Ms. Grace Ike to create a welcoming environment that fosters participation and promotes innovative programmes, particularly those aimed at empowering marginalized groups.

“Your congress must be different—more engaging and inclusive. Consider initiatives that uplift the less privileged in the FCT and restore the council’s glory,” Onyilo urged.

The event was a platform for stakeholders to share insights on fostering transparency and accountability in governance. Comrade Paul Ella Abechi, a former Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, stressed the need for regular updates to members, calling on the new leadership to prioritize transparency by presenting monthly stewardship reports.

The thanksgiving service was a rallying point for the NUJ community, reaffirming its commitment to gender-sensitive leadership and the advancement of inclusive governance.

Ms. Grace Ike’s tenure promises to be a transformative chapter in the NUJ’s history, driven by the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
