Cross River State and indeed Nigeria is about to witness a catapults revolution, the first of it’s kind in the history of the state and the nation at large.
The idea of the catapults revolution which is spreading like wildfire across the state is attracting attention every other passing day since the initiators made it public in the cyberspace.
The brain behind this captivating and a near intimidating move is birth by a new group called CATAPULTS MOVEMENT of NIGERIA with it’s headquarters in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State. The motto of the group reads: Equal Rights and Justice. Their symbolic insignia is the typical catapult commonly used in the community.
The founder of new youthly dominated group is a former President of the National Association of Yala Local Government Students (NAYLOGS) Worldwide, Comrade Saviour Omgbidu.
The less than two weeks group since it was debuted on social media has seen youths rushing to pick membership forms and receive their symbolic Catapults, T-shits and Face-cap.
The Catapults Movement is undoubtedly the biggest trending news in town from Yala to Ogoja, a across Cross River North to the state capital in Calabar and the nation’s capital city in Abuja.
Comrade Saviour, while refuting attempt by some persons who want to give the Catapults group a violent coloration, said the Catapults Movement of Nigeria is a peaceful group set out to preach political consciousness to our teeming youth population in the state and across the nation.
He added that the catapults is a mere symbol, which reminds us of the Biblical David sling used to defeat the Philistines behemoth Goliath. He added that is is time our youths like young David rise up to the challenge of today’s political Goliaths from the various wards to the local governments to the states and the nation at large.
The group during the week held its sensitization rally in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State and according to the founder of the organization, Comr Saviour the rally is to further enlighten the general public on the aims and objective of the organization which is against the popular notion of violence.
He stated thay the group was born out of passion to defend our democracy, and also create platforms for youths to harness their potentials no matter what. He added that the signature of the group was a catapult which shows the readiness of the youths to take over in all spheres of life .
The group rally round the Igoli axis of Ogoja local government area chanting songs of solidarity and preaching peace.
Close watchers of the group’s activities are curiously asking to know the backers which is already unsettling and causing panic in the camp of politicians who fear the new movement will upset political arrangements and permutations in 2023.
Though the founder has said repeated the group has come to stay, but whether the group and her leaders will be able to manage the surging membership and infiltration by detractors, time shall tell.
