President Muhammadu Buahari on Saturday has said he can’t toil with his opportunity to pilot the affairs of the country after all he went through to emerge as President.
Addressing Sarkin Yara ‘A’ ward congress in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Buhari submitted that he fought for no less than 58 months in vain after three consecutive presidential elections since 2003 until luck smiled on him in his fourth shot at the presidency in 2015.
According to Buhari, he spent no less than 30 months after 2003 presidential poll in pursuit of his mandate, while he committed 20 months to the struggle again after 2007 general elections followed by another eight months legal battle in 2011 before he was successful in 2015.
He solicited for prayers for more wisdom in serving the nation and Nigerians, adding that he is conscious of the fact that he will render account of his stewardship in the hereafter.
Buhari also tasked the elected executives and delegates produced by yesterday’ ward congresses of his party to be honest in their conduct as representatives of the people, while applauding the steadfast support of his constituents in Sarkin Yara’A’ Ward since he plunged into partisan politics.
In his remarks, Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State noted that the ward congresses were based on the provision of the APC constitution designed to deepened democratic culture in the country.
In the same vein, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mannir Yakubu, who supervised the conduct of the ward congresses in Katsina metropolis yesterday, applauded the large turn-out and hitch-free conduct of the elections by APC faithful in all the 13 wards.
It would be recalled that the ward congresses took place in 361 wards across the Katsina State However, reports from across the state indicated that virtually the congresses had chosen their delegates and executives through consensus of all the stakeholders.
