As communal clash escalates between two boundary communities of Izzi in Ebony State and Nfuma in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, the Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Dr Rose Oko, Thursday, tasked the federal government proper delineation of the boundary between the two communities to end the 13-year-old conflict.
Oko stated this in a post on her Facebook wall, against the backdrop of the nature of the dimension the conflict has assumed, and called on the federal government to order the deployment of military as well as send relief materials to the affected communities.
She decribed the situation as war following the huge number of deaths and injured including property worth millions of Naira destroyed since the conflict started on June 18, 2018.
She said, “The on-going conflict started on 18th June 2018 and has ballooned into a war with attendant loss of lives and properties!
“It is important for the Federal Government, not only to deploy military presence to maintain peace and send relief materials to displaced persons on both sides but to also take decisive action to end the conflict by delineating the boundary appropriately. One wonders why this has become impossible since 2005!”
However, according to the Senator, the land dispute was resolved in 2005, which the land believed belongs to Nfuma in Cross River was settled by the Izzis in Ebonyi State.
“The communal and boundary clashes between Cross River and Ebonyi States dates as far back as 2005 when contention arose between the Izzis in Ebonyi state and Nfuma in Cross River over land that Nfuma believe belongs to them and was settled by the Izzis”, she stated.
