Following the recent video purportedly released by Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, Coalition for Women Advancement in Africa (COWAA), on Sundar warned that if the insurgents were allowed to regroup under the guise of the video broadcast Nigerian territories recaptured by the military may not have peace.
This warning was given at the weekend in Abuja by the Executive Vice President, COWAA, Jummai Samuel Pukat, during a press briefing over the recent released by Shekau, where she also urged the military to heat up chase for the Shekau and catch him alive along with other leaders of the group, and also their sponsors to end their activities for a lasting peace in the North-East region.
Pukat asserted and described the video released by the leader of the deadly extremist group, Shekau, as a steam lost ostensibly indicates the end of the group, and gave credit to the military for not relenting to clip their wings by shutting down supply routes for the terror group’s vital supplies.
Pukat added that they saw a Shekau, who has been abandoned and facing internal rebellion within his group.
Pukat also advocated for amnesty and rehabilitation as a way to reintegrate members of the terrorist group into the society who have surrendered to the military after proper investigation considering the fact that they were forcefully indoctrinated into the terror group, but have recounted and renounced the group and its activities.
She said: “We cannot get lasting peace by allowing Shekau and his remaining Amirs the luxury of being able to regroup and restore their ability to take on the Nigerian Army. The decision makers in the Army should let the federal government know what is needed to help these abominations called terrorists keep their appointments with their makers.
“It is within international conventions for an enemy who lays down his life to get considerations under such provisions but until that time, what Nigerians want to see is the Army getting more ammunitions and artillery to further decimate the ranks of the terrorists.”
She however, urged the military to critically analyse and conduct an in-depth scrutiny of the purported video of the terrorists and see how they could also use it to strategise professionally to get to the root of the activities and sources to completely incapacitate the killer sect with a deadly blow.
She also called for stern punishment for extreme groups in the country working in tandem with political actors in and outside Nigeria to sabotage the peace of the people.
“Experiences of other nations that are battling terrorism are noteworthy as they show that the Shekau capitulation video calls for action and not for the DHQ to be telling us to disregard it.
“We want to note that amnesty should be handed over to all those who were forcefully indoctrinated into the terror group’s criminality as a way of further decimating whatever structure the criminal thought would survive him”, she stated.
