Suspected hired political thugs on Saturday disrupted the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congresses in Ibadan, leaving scores of party chieftains seriously injured.
The hired political thugs invaded the party state Secretariat of the APC, Oke Ado, Ibadan venue of the pre-meeting between various stakeholders of the party and the state congress delegates from the national headquarters of the party threatening hell.
Party leaders including members of the state executives, the Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdur Raheem Adebayo Shittu, the chairman of the Nigerian Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Professor Adeeolu Akande and other stakeholders have barely settled down when fierce looking thugs carrying guns and other sophisticated weapons swooped on them.
The unfolding situation resulted in party members scampering for safety as the hoodlums attacked them with guns .
The state congress committee members from the party national headquarters in Abuja were about taken their seats when the hoodlums invaded the meeting venue.
Party chieftains and members who got injured were ferried to various private clinics across the city for treatment.
It was gathered that among those injured and hospitalised were the party deputy chairman in the state, Alhaji Ishaq Adisa.
It was gathered that Senator Monsurat Sunmonu and nine members of the House of Representatives who alleged assaulted were at the police command headquarters to make official report.
However, warring parties came together and resolved to have a peace meeting today (Monday).
It was gathered that the ward congress would now take place on Sunday.
As a prelude to the council election scheduled to take place across the 33 LGs & LCDAs in Oyo State, party faithful across different wards in the state, yesterday filed out to choose their executives members.
Speaking on the aborted ward congress, the chairman, Alhaji Issa Halilu Muhammed said the election had been shifted till today (Sunday) after due consultations with stakeholders.
