AMAC Chair Boosts Farming With Distribution Of Free Fertilizers To Farmers

In its bid to boost agriculture yields, the chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Honestly Abdullahi Candido on Thursday commenced the first phase of free distribution of over 1,800 bags of fertilizers to farmers in the area council.

Candido, who made the disclosure while speaking with journalists said the fertilizers would be evenly distributed at no cost to every farmer across the wards in the Area Council.

He further explained that the council under his leadership was working hard to encourage farmers and more youths to go into farming through the introduction of various aspects of farming facilities and techniques, hence the urgent need for the free distribution of fertilizers.

Speaking at the event, the supervisory councillor for education, youths, sports and culture, Hon Gabriel Bravo Oluohu opined that what the council under Candido’s leadership have done here is to create another avenue to continuously boost the morale of the farmers and to equally encourage them not think that agriculture is limited to growing of yam, cassava, plantain and all that.

“We are creating new areas that would absorb our graduates, the youths and peasant farmers alike to enlarge the scope and scale of agricultural production to serve as a veritable alternative to our over dependence on oil”.

Bravo added that arrangements are in the pipeline for the council to schedule capacity training for farmers to equip them with high-yeilding breeds to boost their production and local content to meet the very high demands of food shortages.

“The Area Council under the dynamic leadership of Hon Abdullahi Candido is committed to raising a new breed of farmers who would work with improved seedlings varieties to boost the Abuja Municipal Area Council’s Internally Generated Revenue to solve its problems.

“We hope that in a short while AMAC would not rely solely on statutory allocations before it can pay workers salaries or build its roads. We want to wholly depend on our agricultural products.”
