The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Thursday said he would not engage his former ally and House member from Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, in political mudslinging, saying he won’t respond to jokes. Mr. Dogara was responding to a deluge of requests from Nigerians online who asked him to respond to allegations of high-level corruption leveled by Mr. Jibrin against him and other principal officers. Former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, on Friday defected back to the All Progressives Congress. The Niger Delta Avengers on Friday faulted claims by President Muhammadu Buhari that his administration was holding talks with the militants for possible compromise. The militants had claimed responsibilities for series of attacks on oil facilities across the region in recent times. A statement issued by the group’s spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, the group was not aware of any ongoing peace talks. A member of the House of Representatives representing Lagos’ Ifako-Ijaye Federal Constituency, Adewale Oluwatayo, is dead. Mr. Oluwatayo, a former Special Adviser to Lagos State Government, died in the early hours of Wednesday in Abuja, sources said. The lawmakers spoke on anonymity because Mr. Oluwatayo’s family was yet to issue a statement about his passing.
